The choral ensemble Vokalakademie Berlin stemmed from the Innsbruck Festival Chorus, established in 2006 by Rene Jacobs as a conservatoire-based project, as part of the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik (Innsbruck Festival of Early Music). Since 2007 Frank Markowitsch has been the director of this professional ensemble. The artisic concept relies on the strong contribution of each individual singer, and as such, each member of the choir receives individual vocal lessons during the rehearsal period. This vocal coaching is done by Regina Jakobi, who has specialised for many years in working with professional choral and solo singers, and who has been working with Vokalakademie Berlin since its foundation.
Together with the Vokalakademie Berlin Frank Markowitsch published a concert recording of Alessandro Scarlatti’s „Vespro della Beate Vergine“ which has been well received by the critics.
