Haydn’s “Creation” in a dialogue with traditional Arabian songs! On 21 June 2016, this unusual challenge was taken up by students from the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, refugees from Syria and Iraq, the children’s choir DFG Freiburg, an instrumental ensemble from the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, and a choir organized especially for the project. Anyone familiar with Haydn’s “Creation” was invited to take part and sing in the choir. Frank Markowitsch initiated the project and led the oratorio workshop. Together with two other colleagues, he was able to successfully prepare this intercultural concert in a very short period of time. It was an evening that brought the Orient and Occident significantly closer in Freiburg’s Friedenskirche (Church of Peace).
