On the second weekend of the 2018 Advent season, Frank Markowitsch will conduct the first performance in Freiburg of Sascha von Donat’s concert version for children and families of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. This production has been performed regularly since 2013 to sold-out houses in Berlin and Potsdam. The Freiburg performances will be presented by the experienced team of the Vokalakademie Berlin and the soloists Matthias Jahrmärker (Joseph, Bass and Speaker), Susanne Ellen Kirchesch (Maria, Soprano and Speaker), and Franziska Markowitsch (Alto), accompanied by the newly founded Prometheus Ensemble Freiburg.
To help finance the concerts, a crowdfunding project is underway until 12 November 2018. Frank Markowitsch and the Vokalakademie Berlin have successfully employed this method to finance two CD productions in the past six years, making the ensemble and its artistic director pioneers in the use of innovative co-financing models for cultural activities.
In the weeks leading up to the performances, workshops related to Bach’s oratorio will be held for elementary school classes in cooperation with the music education department of the Hochschule for Music in Freiburg.
